Why do adult Winnipeggers need to get "in motion"?
Everyone needs to get “in motion.” Moderate amounts of physical activity are recommended for people of all ages, especially during adulthood when people tend to work more and have less time to be physically active. Lives that are busy with family and work make it more difficult to set aside the time to exercise.
Physical activity doesn’t need to be too time consuming and difficult.
Take the stairs whenever possible, park the car at the far end of the parking lot, go for a walk during coffee and lunch breaks, march on the spot while watching your children's hockey game. If you need a little motivation, sign up for the Winnipeg in motion walking workout.
Aim for at least 30-60 minutes of activity a day.A healthy dose of physical activity can be achieved with several short 10-minute sessions spread throughout the day or through longer sessions of moderately intense activities such as brisk walking.
By becoming more physically active and embracing an active lifestyle, you’ll feel more energetic, be happier, sleep better, be more productive, manage stress better and also reduce your risk of illness.
Plus, for those of you with children, you have the chance to role model good health. Children are more likely to be active for life if their parents are active. So your activity is a good investment in your own health today, and in the health of your children for years to come!
Make today the day that you get “in motion”!
