In December, 2009, Winnipeg City Council approved $20.4 million in capital funding to support an extensive active transportation network throughout the city. The funding comes from the three levels of government (the City, Province and Federal governments each contributing one-third, or $6.8 million). This active transportation program involves the creation of 35 projects that range from multi-use pathways to bike boulevards. When this program is completed by the end of this year, Winnipeggers will be able to access 375 km of active transportation routes. Do you have suggestions for your neighbourhood? Then, come out and have your say at one of the Public Open Houses & Community Drop-Ins

Food safety has been a big topic in the news over the last year. From the latest recalls of deli meats, prosciutto, chips, spices and ice cream, no food seems safe from contamination. If you're worried about food safety in your own kitchen, visit http://www.canfightbac.org/en/, the website of the Canadian Partnership for Food Safety Education. You'll find great info, factsheets and games on how to be food safe, including the four essential steps: clean, separate, cook and chill. Adopt safe food handling skills and fight bac!
